Because I'm Happy – Raven Oak

Because I’m Happy

There’s an article going around social media regarding a study that found the top 10 songs guaranteed to make someone happy. The study concluded those songs were the following:

  • Queen, “Don’t Stop Me Now”
  • ABBA, “Dancing Queen”
  • Beach Boys, “Good Vibrations”
  • Billy Joel, “Uptown Girl”
  • Survivor, “Eye of the Tiger”
  • The Monkees, “I’m a Believer”
  • Cyndi Lauper, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”
  • Bon Jovi, “Livin’ on a Prayer”
  • Gloria Gaynor, “I Will Survive”
  • Katrina & the Waves, “Walking on Sunshine”

While I love me some Queen, I abhor the Beach Boys and The Monkeys. Can’t stand them. Not a single song. Most of those songs don’t do much for me in the happiness department either if I’m honest.

If something can make disabled me wanna get up and dance, let alone get up and dance despite pain, it’s guaranteed to make me happy. That’s typically how I judge the happiness factor of music. Because I’m happy, here’s my list of songs that never fail to make me happy:

  1. Lose Control – Teddy Swims
  2. Feel Good Inc., – Gorillaz
  3. Manic Monday – The Bangles
  4. Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles
  5. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper
  6. Three Little Birds – Bob Marley & the Wailers
  7. Hey Jude – The Beatles
  8. Riptide – Vance Joy
  9. Love Shack – The B-52’s
  10. Happy – Pharrell Williams
  11. Take On Me – A-ha
  12. This Is Me – The Greatest Showman Cast

I can’t listen to any of these songs while I write because I’ll end up dancing and singing along rather than writing, but if I need a mood boost, these are my go-tos.

What songs make you happy?
