The study of when exactly cats became domesticated is apparently a complicated one. Some scientists say cats became domesticated around 10-12,000 years ago, while others claim it is closer to 8,000 years ago. I decided to go somewhere in between with 9,000 years ago in terms of cats “landing on the planet” and making themselves known to humans. 😉

Malley would’ve made a good desert cat. Being a Chartreux mix, he’s got the massive feet and head, plus the double-coated, water-resistant fur that a lot of desert-like cats have. It keeps him cool when needed, but also keeps him warm when it’s cold (like a desert night). Being a pale color, he would reflect the sun a bit better too. His breed is also well known for being fast and seriously good hunters. That’s why I chose him for the desert “photo” in the comic.
