Don’t Worry, Be Happy
The kitty in the first panel on the webcomic was a neighbor’s cat a long, long time ago. His name was Greyson, and he and his brother (Murphy) decided they liked us more than their owners. They were indoor/outdoor kitties and spent the majority of their time with us. They slept in our bed, ate meals at our place, curled up on the couch with us, etc. The owners weren’t keeping them vaccinated, so we had them vaccinated, treated for fleas, etc. This continued for almost a year until the owners figured it out.
We thought them strays but they weren’t. Rather than recognize that cats can be like this, the owners got angry. REALLY angry. They threatened us. Greyson & Murphy were “[THEIR] CATS!” and if we didn’t stop taking care of them and loving them, the owners were going to sue us. (I hate when people act like cats are little more than property. Just like people, cats can love many.) We tried, but Greyson and Murphy had other ideas. The police were called, who told the owners that cats can be like that and if the cats were indoor/outdoor, that’s how it goes. You can’t control where cats go. Also, if the owners weren’t keeping them up to date on shots and we were, well, that put the law on our side since we were following city code.
The owners listened to the police and for the next few weeks, all was well. We shared the kitties. Until suddenly the owners moved.
We never saw Greyson and Murphy again.
I truly hope they had a good life. <3
