We have three kitties in our household, which you’ve probably seen me post and talk about quite a bit over the years. Malley is our 16.5 year old Chartreux mix kitty and brother of Riley. Just before GeekGirlCon this past weekend, Malley was running up the stairs and caught a claw on the carpet. Because he’s old, his body kept going while the claw did not.

Malley did the equivalent of a football player tearing his ACL. In cats, it’s the cranial cruciate ligament, but it’s just as critical. It rendered him lame instantly.

The good news is that it is fixable via a joint/ligament replacement surgery. The bad news is that the surgery is $10,000. I wish I were kidding but I’m not. It’s hella $$$. We have a credit card for just these reasons, but I’m not going to lie. This is a hard hit during a time we’re already saving up for a new roof, which we desperately need. People have asked what they can do to help and honestly, the best thing you can do is:

Malley’s scheduled for surgery on 10/18. He’ll spend 6-8 weeks in a crate for recovery, which is not going to be fun for anyone, but afterwards, he should have full use again of his leg. 😀
