Ah yes, the Vulcan Mind Meld. Rare is the geek who has not heard of this!

The idea that we can communicate mind-to-mind and share experiences without ever saying a word. It’s a fascinating concept and one that’s been explored in science fiction & fantasy for decades.

What if I told you it was possible?

An international team of researchers recently developed a device that allowed two people separated by 5,000 miles to communicate with each other through brain activity. Basically, they took the brain activity from one person and injected it into the second. The second person’s brain interpreted the information, and communication was born. The science uses EEG (electroencephalogram) and robot-assisted TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation).

The testers were able to exchange short messages like “Hello!” without using any speech, writing, or body language. It’s not perfect, but it’s a step towards the Vulcan Mind Meld! I can see the more practical purposes in this being used for the disabled or even those with mental challenges.

Maybe some day soon, you can get your Spock on.
