This week’s Book Cover Throwback: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (aka Philosopher’s Stone).
Kind of frightening to think this was first published 18 years ago in 1997. I feel old!
What I Love about This Cover: Harry Potter looks like most clumsy, geeky 6th graders. It was a great way of hooking that demographic. Plus, the idea that he’s on a broom is an instant, “Wha?? to make readers pick up the book.
What I Don’t Love about This Cover: I really wish they’d left the original title with the philosopher’s stone instead. Just because we’re American doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy mythology.
