This week’s Monday Night Gaming: All the Games aka the Top 15 Games I’m Most Excited About.
One of the largest woes currently is that we’re living in corporate housing while we sell our condo and purchase a house. Minus the crucial stuff, all of our belongings are in storage–including all the game consoles.
It’s killing me that our consoles are in storage because so many great games are coming out this quarter. Both my husband and I have been sick with the crud for the past week (which includes the 2-3 week long cough of hell), so I haven’t had a chance to play any new games–hence the look at what’s coming.
I’m a long-time fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, but after kicking out Hideo Kojima, I’m not planning on supporting Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Other than that, here’s my list.
Top 15 Games I’m Most Excited About.
- SUPER MARIO MAKER (Wii U)–I’m excited as hell about Super Mario Maker, which allows players to create crazy levels and play them. Check out this video for some crazy examples. I suspect many couples who game together with exchange words over each others’ levels, but what’s gaming without a difficulty level? 😉
- ROCK BAND 4 (PS4/XboxOne)—Rock Band has always been one of my favorites, especially with all the DLC. I’m glad the 4th iteration is less teaching mode and more game mode.
- Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer (3DS)–I’ve seen mixed reviews of this game, but if there’s one thing I love, it’s designing homes and interiors. I loved it in The Sims, and I loved it in previous Animal Crossing games.
- Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide Expansion (PC, Mac)–I’ve always been a Civ fan, but throw in space and I’m sold. The expansion should fix some of the areas that were lacking in the initial game. Floating cities anyone?
- Minecraft: Story Mode – Episode 1: The Order of the Stone (Xbox One, 360, PS4, PS3, PC)–I haven’t played a lot of Minecraft in the past year. While I love building in it, it’s grown a little stale for me, but Story Mode may fix that and revitalize the game. I’m definitely curious about this one because it’ll have goals and achievements.
- The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (3DS) –It’s a Zelda game. What else can I say?
- Fallout 4 (Xbox One, PS4, PC) –There aren’t words to express how excited I am for this game. I loved Fallout 3. Hell, it’s in my top 3 favorite games of all time. I know my husband is more excited for Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut, but Fallout 4 is all mine. (The Fallout series was based on the original Wasteland game.) I even bought the special Loot Crate box for Fallout 4.
- Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One, Xbox 360) –I wasn’t a huge fan of the original Tomb Raider games, but the most recent reboots have been thick with plot lines and character arcs worthy of a book. For me, a good game is all about plot.
- Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS) – November 20–I enjoy the Mystery Dungeon games for the same reason I enjoyed Chocobo’s Dungeon–plot, exploration, and battle. Both are the classic Rogue-like genre, which is one of my favorites. (I played the original DOS Rogue back in the day. I even made a strategy guide for it, back before there were such things.)
- Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival (Wii U)–While this one is part of the Animal Crossing series, it’s not really much of an Animal Crossing game. It’s really Mario Party, but Animal Crossing themed. Considering I enjoy both series, I’m okay with this.
- Fable Legends (Xbox One)–I’m a bit up in the air on this one. Rather than the traditional Fable series RPG, this is a free-to-play game that is very cooperative. It’s set several hundred years before the original series, so I’m intrigued.
- Final Fantasy VII (PS4)–I haven’t heard a ton about whether this remake is truly coming out in 2015, but several gaming sites say it is supposed to be out in 2015. Either way, I’m very excited about this game. I don’t like most of the newer games in the Final Fantasy series (cough, cough FFXIII), but the older games are definitely among my favorites. VII is my favorite of the entire series, so they better do this right!
- Starbound (Updates)–Starbound came out before this year, but there have been a ton of updates, particularly plot-based ones. There have been some big announcements in terms of updates for Starbound (more monsters, weapon-based abilities, etc.), so I’m really excited to see where it goes from here.
- Oregon Trail Complete Edition (PS4)–I played the original Oregon Trail back in elementary school as well as the newer mobile release. This game isn’t a remake but pays tribute to the original–with a twist. Zombies!! Instead of dysentery, you’re trying to save your team from zombies. Perfect!
- Beyond Sol (PC)–This game reminds me a bit of the upcoming Firefly MMO, but also of Civilization: Beyond Earth. You settle the galaxy, battle enemies, and some of the same game structures you see in a Civ game. I’m curious to see how this one compares.
Now I just need to find a house ASAP so I can get all our consoles back and game on!
