Gamers will get a kick out of my story “Q-Be,” which features an evil app based on the freemium model that’s oh-so popular right now. Even if you’re not a gamer, if you’ve ever played Candy Crush or some other social game, you know the freemium model. It’s that lovely game that “seems” free until you run out of energy or lives or something else and then it bugs you to purchase more energy or what not for real world money. Yep, that’s freemium.
The app in “Q-Be” is also reminiscent of Microsoft’s Clippy (aka Office Assistant), which would pop-up in the most annoying manner to ask if you needed help finding the question mark.
Picture a lot of snark. Typical Raven.
My story “Q-Be” will be in the Untethered: A Magic iPhone Anthology due out this fall, along with stories by Rhiannon Held, Manny Frishberg & Edd Vick, Kris Millering, Dale Cameron Lowry, H.M. Jones, Amanda Hackwith, Jonathon Burgess, Aaron Giddings, Sr., Jon Lasser, Jeremiah Reinmiller, Kyle Yadlosky, C.S. O’Cinneide, Stevehen Warren, A. Moritz, Angela Dell’Isola, Stephanie Djock, J.S. Rogers, Sarina Dorie, and Dawn Vogel.
The anthology is due out this fall, but in the meantime, Cantina Publishing is hoping to Kickstart this bad boy in order to offset costs and possibly pay the authors more money.
If you’ve been keeping up with the chaos of our last year with the flood and both moves, you probably already know how I feel about more money. 😉 If you have a moment to help Kickstart it, we’d all appreciate it.
